Simultaneous polarization attraction and Raman amplification of a light beam in optical fibers

چکیده
In this paper, we demonstrate that it is possible to combine both Raman amplification and polarization attraction of a signal wave in a single optical fiber by means of a counterpropagating scheme. Experiments were performed near 1550 nm in continuous wave regime and by means of a 10-Gbit/s return-to-zero signal injected in a 20 km-long lowPMD optical fiber. Complete repolarization and 6.7 dB amplification of the signal wave were achieved by injecting a 850-mW 1480-nm counter-propagating polarized pump wave.

Polarization Control for Slow and Fast Light in Fiber Optical, Raman-assisted, Parametric Amplification
Efficient slow and fast light fiber devices based on narrow band optical parametric amplification require a strict polarization control of the waves involved in the interaction. The use of high birefringence and spun fibers is studied theoretically, possible impairments evaluated, and design parameters determined.

The study of the polarization dynamics of two counterpropagating beams in optical fibers has recently been the subject of a growing renewed interest, from both the theoretical and experimental points of view. This system exhibits a phenomenon of polarization attraction, which can be used to achieve a complete polarization of an initially unpolarized signal beam, almost without any loss of energ...

متن کاملNonlinear repolarization dynamics in optical fibers: transient polarization attraction
In this work we present a theoretical and experimental study of the response of a lossless polarizer to a signal beam with a time-varying state of polarization. By lossless polarizer we mean a nonlinear conservative medium (e.g., an optical fiber) which is counter-pumped by an intense and fully polarized pump beam. Such medium transforms input uniform or random distributions of the state of pol...
متن کاملInvestigation of Scalar Modulation Instability in the Presence of Raman Scattering in Photonic Crystal Fibers
In this paper, by including Raman scattering in the coupled-mode equations, the scalar modulation instability in photonic crystal fibers is investigated. The evolution of the pump, Stokes and anti-Stokes waves along the fiber as well as the conversion efficiency for two cases, with and without Raman effect, are studied. The effect of anti-Stokes seed and the pump depletion on the evolution of S...
